| Every day... |
- 30,000 children die from waterborne
diseases
- half the world's hospital beds are occupied by people
suffering from polluted water consumption
- 80% of all sick people in the world are suffering from
diseases related to poor water supply and sanitation
- 60% of all third world people live without an adequate
supply of drinking water
- 75% of all third world people have no kind of sanitation facility
- Because water is remote and polluted tens of millions
of women and children spend six or more hours every day fetching polluted
water

Water is vital for life. Yet millions of
people in the poorer
countries
have to walk long distances to what may well be a stagnant, contaminated supply
of this most essential
commodity. In fact, bad water is a major source of disease all over the Third
World and every minute 20 children die from
water-related diseases. The strain of carrying heavy containers of
water causes illnesses and deformities in children; women risk developing
slipped discs, arthritis or miscarriages. |
