Water Projects Contact Us

The Starving World Action Group was formed in 1982 by a group of people n the Parish of Askern, Carcroft and Burghwallis to give practical help to people in the Third World. Concerned that millions of people were dying each year owing to the fact that they did not have enough to eat, because of where they live yet part of the family of God.
Our aim is to help people in the third world to obtain food, shelter and clean water and health care.  The first slogan in 1982 was Water for all by 1992.  There is still a long way to go, but the dedication of the group has meant that more than 150 wells have been sunk so far and many storage tanks provided.
SWAG elected to work on projects mainly from Africa, India and South America. These were obtained through direct contacts with workers in these places, the Little Way Association and Reaching the Unreached. This method results in the group receiving very welcome feedback in the form of letters of appreciation and photographs of completed work.

Very many villages in the Third World suffer from an acute shortage of clean water.  Often water has to be collected from rivers many miles away; and even then it can cause all kinds of diseases. Therefore, over the years the group has concentrated on helping to fund clean water projects. The money has been raised in many and various ways; the collection of spare coppers, 10p a week, jumble sales, coffee days, garden fetes and many individual contributions.

100% of Donations to SWAG actually goes towards a project, working. The happiness of the people who have already benefited from our projects is wonderful. Eventually, we hope to help  supply basic resources to enable villages to become self-reliant in the poorer countries of the world.
